Surface Laser Treatment
Used to diminish the appearance of spider veins and smaller broken capillaries, this new laser treatment technology offers an option for veins of the face and legs. The laser energy is absorbed by the pigment in your blood and collapses the vein. Although discomfort is mild, some form of cooling can be used to increase the patient’s comfort.
The duration and number of sessions will vary depending on the severity of the spider veins and their location. Many facial veins can be treated in one session; however, most areas on the leg require three to five treatments to ensure that all spider veins are treated. These treatments are spaced four to six weeks apart. Results can be seen almost immediately.
Common recommendations for the patient:
- Stay out of the sun and tanning beds for 4 weeks before and after surface laser treatment
- Abstain from high impact activities such as running or step aerobics for three weeks
- Walk at a moderate pace, as it will aid in the healing process
As with any procedure, some mild side-effects might occur. These side effects include slight redness to the skin tone or mild swelling in the treated area.
